My Life
My name is Niamh and I live in Cambridgeshire with my family and all of our animals.
Loads of people think that I am spoilt because I have horses and maybe I am, but I am also a young carer for both parents and work with the charity wherever I can.
Mum and dad set up a charity about six years ago to help homeless veterans who stay with us until we find them a home. Many of these men and women enjoy being around the horses and we use equine therapy as one of the activities.
Anyway, every night my dad has terrible nightmares, waking up covered in sweat and sometimes he screams. Having been in the army for years he has seen loads of awful things. Night time for my daddy is a scary place and many of my friends think he is really odd.
He is not like a normal dad and can't do many daddy things. Daddy could never take us to a firework display, or shopping in a busy town because certain things make him panic. If you have someone in your family that is special and suffers with any form of mental illness you will know what I mean and this site is for you.
When I wrote my books some children and their parents said thank you for helping us. I then had a light bulb moment and thought that I should set up a site so we could all chat ..... this is it
So I hope that I get some other children contacting me or at least looking at my blog, anyone can feel free to write and even send in some pics cus it is your site too and all of our families are special, but I guess we are too.
I thought that I should add a line or two as lots of Mums read this blog, if what I write gives you a boost then great I have done something special. I would never write anything to hurt people's feelings and try not to swear in case there are any younger kids reading this.
I will warn you now I have started another book, but this one is different, I want your help. I would like letters to the illness, your mum, dad whoever; poems anything then I want to publish them and raise enough money that kids like us can go somewhere on holiday with our family. I know that things are tough at the minute so I want to make it that the holidays or days out are cheaper than they should be.
If you would like to help, please let me know. The money from my other books goes to my charities, my third one is to help other kids. I am lucky and can stay with friends and things but sometimes a holiday isnt possible. I want to help make it possible.
